The miniaturisation of the electronics makes the quality of assembly of individual components particularly important. Devices for visual inspection of assembly quality are now an essential component of any automated production line. However, the purchase of an AOI is not always justified. In an electronics maintenance shop, a solution that improves the quality and the efficiency of the service is an indispensable part of the business. At the same time it exceeds the capabilities of traditional microscopes. We are obviously talking about digital microscopes (video microscopes).
These devices are designed to for visual inspection or for precise work requiring viewing the workpiece, while at high magnification – up to 500 times. These devices enable the operator to detect production or service defects and to quickly react to them. Their use is not limited to the electronics industry.
IMAGE QUALITY AND FEATURES
Each digital microscope must be connected to a monitor, preferably HD type. The image on the monitor, obtained from the FHD camera of the video microscope, is a real-time image with unsurpassed colour and sharpness. You can even be tempted to say that what the operator sees is exactly what is under the camera lens – without any interference or delays. The Danish company Tagarno, which manufactures digital microscopes, offers models that have a number of important functions important during inspections.
One of them is the division of the monitor screen in order to compare the a previously taken picture of a sample and the image of the observed object. Such a comparison of the examined object with the formula makes the operator more confident in his work. Nearly each of the Magnus family of products has the ability to take a picture of the observed object and save it directly on a computer disk or storage medium (USB, SD card – depending on the model) for further electronic processing and documentation. Special lenses give the possibility of a wide range of magnifications, and external controllers provide access to a number of advanced camera settings. Worth mentioning are the positioning tables, which facilitate the inspection of small parts, and the software for overlaying the image. These are just some of the features of the Magnus series.
ERGONOMICS
You don’t have to convince anybody about the importance of a well-prepared workplace. Its basis is, of course, tools properly adapted to the specifications of the activities performed, special protective clothing, but also furniture, a chair and an industrial table. Incorrectly planned workplaces result in sick leave of up to a dozen or so days a year, because any illness caused by an incorrect position during the performance of occupational duties has an impact on health and may lead to longer absence in subsequent years of professional work.
Musculoskeletal disorders are one of the most common health problems among production workers. They are also among the most common occupational diseases, resulting from the specificity of the type of work performed. The conditions in which an employee performs occupational activities play an extremely important role in minimising the risk of permanent damage to his/her health. The causes of the disease are primarily due to improper strain on the musculoskeletal system. These include one-sided and monotonous movement during occupational activities and low-movement activities such as working at a desk in a standing or sitting position, leaning for a long time.
These inspection conditions occur when inspecting with a standard microscope. It is different when there is a digital microscope on the stand. A proper and comfortable body position provides better work results, less stress and fewer absences. The design of video microscopes and the ability to mount monitors make it possible to change the position of the monitor, controller or table height at any time.
Positioning the monitor on eye level reduces eye, neck and back strain. An additional advantage is the large working space that users receive in the full zoom range, as the distance between the lens and the viewed elements can be up to 333 mm (Magnus HD Prestige). All this makes it easier for the operator to change the working position and gain more freedom of movement.
QUALITY OF INSPECTIONS IN OTHER SECTORS
The various functions of Magnus digital microscopes make them ideal not only for the electronics industry.
It is the ideal working tool for jewellers and watchmakers. Moreover, they find their place in industries where even higher precision is important, such as automation, mechanics, precision engineering, prosthetics, medicine, laboratories. Regardless of the industry, the quality of inspections is undoubtedly influenced by the possibility of observation by more than one person at a time. This is a property particularly useful for quality control or training.
The ability to talk and work together brings new, more dynamic ways of doing things, greater inspection certainty, safety and innovative ideas. As you can see, Magnus video microscopes are designed with a special focus on operator health and safety, ergonomics and high quality inspection.
